Jack Findlay With That Tree

In 1959/1960 there existed on Gan a very swampy area of land in the centre of the island, thick in vegetation and trees.  The Mangrove tree in the picture was the only one to be found on Gan and everyone wondered just how it got there.  This swampy area of land was a major breeding ground for mosquitoes until it was eventually cleared and drained.  Regular spraying of the area with insecticide by the AMWD workers ensured the mosquito menace did not return.
